MP Amongin Jane Frances: Every Region and Community Must Get a Fair Share of the National Budget

‎NAIROBI, Kenya – Uganda’s Parliamentary Committee on Equal Opportunities has concluded a four-day benchmarking seminar with Kenya’s Parliamentary Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities at the Parliament of Kenya in Nairobi.

‎The high-level engagement, held under the theme _“Advancing Equity, Equality and Non-Discrimination through Legislation, Public Policy and National Budgeting,” focused on sharing best practices to strengthen fair and inclusive governance systems in Uganda.

‎During the seminar, the Ugandan delegation held discussions with their Kenyan counterparts on policy frameworks, legislative approaches, and budgeting strategies aimed at ensuring that no citizen is left behind or discriminated against in government programs.

‎The benchmarking visit is expected to inform Uganda’s efforts to enhance equity in resource allocation, improve policy implementation, and align national planning with constitutional principles of equality and social justice.

‎Speaking during the seminar, Hon. Amongin Jane Frances, Woman Member of Parliament for Kaberamaido District and a member of the committee, emphasized the need for equitable resource allocation.

‎Amongin stated that the main role of the Committee on Equal Opportunities is to ensure that no Ugandan is left behind or discriminated against in government programs, policies, and budgets.

‎She added that every sector, region, and community must receive fair consideration in national planning and budgeting.

‎Catherine Lamwaka, Chairperson of Uganda’s Parliamentary Committee on Equal Opportunities, said the exchange was critical in strengthening Uganda’s approach to equity.

‎She noted that the benchmarking seminar would provide committee members with an opportunity to learn from Kenya’s experiences in legislation, policy implementation, and budgeting that promote fairness for all citizens.

‎Hon. Haji Yusuf, Chairperson of Kenya’s Parliamentary Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities, called for deeper collaboration between the two countries in the fight against discrimination.
