Denis Hamson Obua Appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary for Lango Paramount Chief


‎Former Government Chief Whip and former Ajuri County MP Denis Hamson Obua has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, serving as the high-level international and national representative for the Lango Paramount Chief (Won Nyaci), HRH Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune.

‎In a major restructuring move aimed at strengthening governance and accelerating socio-economic growth across Lango, the Paramount Chief of Lango (Won Nyaci), H.R.H. Eng. Dr. Michael Moses Odongo Okune, has appointed key cabinet ministers and established seven new specialized committees.

‎The decree is contained in an official notice issued on October 5, 2026, to the Speaker of the Council Owitong.

‎These new appointments bring together prominent politicians, academics, professionals, and youth leaders to drive cultural preservation and community development.

‎Among the top cabinet appointments, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua of Atek Okwerowee has been named Ambassador Extraordinary Plenipotentiary, serving as the high-level international and national representative for the Won Nyaci.

‎Awitong Ambrose Agec Opio of Omolo Atar Odyakol takes on the role of Deputy Minister for Peace Building/Liaison and Local Government Liaison, tasked with managing relations with local government leaders and resolving traditional asset and property restitution matters under Cap 243.

‎Meanwhile, Mr. Nicholas Karamagi Ogwang Ogoo Bako Ojota has been appointed Deputy Minister for Finance, Planning, and Revenue for Investment & Diaspora Affairs, where he will oversee the mobilization of the Lango diaspora and lead the establishment of the Lango Investment Board.

‎Further strengthening the cabinet, Awitong Ambrose Ocen of Otengoro Olang assumes duties as Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour and Coordinator of Lango Public Servants and Professionals, charged with mobilizing professionals across the region and guiding career development.

‎Mr. Francis Ogwang of Oumolao has been named 5th Deputy Prime Minister in charge of General Duties, where he will oversee special task forces and monitor institutional programs.

‎To expand institutional capacity and enhance overall service delivery, the Won Nyaci formally introduced seven new operational units and specialized committees.

‎The Agriculture, Veterinary, and Fisheries Committee will be led by Chairperson Awitong Benson Odongo, focusing on climate-smart farming techniques, regional demonstration farms, and post-harvest management.

‎Financial oversight will fall under the Audit, Investigations, and Compliance Committee chaired by Awitong Robert Okello, which is responsible for conducting semi-annual financial audits, investigating any misuse of institutional resources, and undertaking technical audits of infrastructure projects.

‎In sports and youth development, Awitong Ongodo Santos will chair the Games and Sports Committee to organize sports tournaments under the royal banner, promote traditional games like the Aloi marathon, and combat youth substance abuse.

‎Alebtong District Woman MP Hon. Dr. Mercy Faith Lakica will head the Youth Committee, dedicated to economic empowerment, vocational training, and cultural orientation for young people.

‎Welfare for younger generations is further supported by the Children’s Affairs Committee under Awitong John Bosco Nyankol, tasked with safeguarding child rights under Ugandan law, curbing child marriage, and facilitating health and education initiatives.

‎Finally, the Won Nyaci established the Lango Heroes Award Committee, headed by Prof. Celestino Obua, which is charged with identifying historical and contemporary figures for royal recognition and overseeing the establishment of a permanent Lango Heroes Square.
