Monday, 5th October 2026: An Amolatar District farmers’ group has received beehives and other assorted equipment worth Shs 32.5 million under the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project (UCSATP).

The equipment was handed over to Acii Bee Farmers Group in Acii Sub-County during an event held at the District Production Department.

Speaking during the handover, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Sarah Tyan, commended the farmers for venturing into beekeeping, which she described as a profitable agricultural enterprise.

Tyan encouraged farmers across the district to diversify their agricultural activities in response to changing weather patterns, saying diversification would help them reduce the risks associated with crop failure.

She urged the beneficiaries to take the project seriously and use the support provided to improve their livelihoods, noting that the government is promoting climate-smart agriculture to help farmers transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture.

The Deputy Chief Administrative Officer, Geoffrey Vuciri, advised the beneficiaries to protect and properly maintain the beehives and other equipment provided to them to ensure the sustainability of their enterprise.

Vuciri commended the Government of Uganda for introducing the co-funding model under the climate-smart agriculture programme, where farmers contribute 20 percent while the government provides 80 percent of the project funding.

He said the model promotes ownership among beneficiaries compared to programmes where government provides 100 percent of the support.

The District Production and Marketing Officer, Francis Ojok, urged the farmers to consider forming a cooperative society to enable them to undertake value addition and negotiate better prices for their products.

Ojok pledged continued extension support to the farmers, particularly in addressing challenges that may affect their beekeeping enterprise.

Amolatar District is among the 69 districts implementing the Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project, which seeks to increase productivity, improve market access and strengthen the resilience of selected value chains in the project areas.

The project also seeks to strengthen the capacity to respond promptly and effectively to eligible crises and emergencies affecting agricultural production.
