As the year 2026 draws closer, the people of Dokolo district in Uganda have come together for a noble cause – to fundraise for the roofing of Atur A church of Uganda.
This project, which requires over 100 million to complete, has caught the attention of local politicians who have joined forces with the Christians of Dokolo urban archdeaconery to raise funds and support the construction. ‎‎
The event, held on Sunday, saw a remarkable achievement with a total of over 28 million raised.‎‎
The collaboration between all parties involved has been heartwarming, and the community has shown great unity and support towards this project.
‎‎Among the prominent figures present were Dokolo South MP Felix Okot Ogong, Dr. Grace Hanna Lalam – a candidate for the women representative position under NRM, Daramoi Denis Bob, and Vincent Opito – the hopeful area MP for Dokolo South in the upcoming 2026 elections. ‎‎
In his address, MP Felix Okot Ogong, representing the guest of honor Denis Hamson Obua, emphasized the power of God in the election process and urged fellow politicians to refrain from using the church as a platform for their political agendas. ‎‎
He also presented a donation of 6 million on behalf of Denis Obua, Cap. Mike Mukula, and himself. ‎‎
Dr. Grace Hanna Lalam, a motherly figure in the community, urged for unity among politicians and spoke against the spread of hatred during the election period. ‎‎
She also condemned individuals who are promoting secretarism in the political movement in Dokolo. ‎‎
Vincent Opito, the hopeful area MP for Dokolo South, reminded the voters to stay strong and not give in to any temptations that may come their way during the election period. ‎‎
He referenced the temptation of Jesus and urged the community to follow his example.
‎‎Opito also addressed the issue of party loyalty, stating that people should not be like the woman who refused to give water to Jesus when he was thirsty.
‎‎He highlighted the importance of looking beyond party lines and urged the community to support him as he runs under the UPC party. ‎‎
However, some leaders like Woman MP Sarah Aguti, LC5 chairperson James Otoo Apili, LC3 chairperson Rose Akello Erem among others did not attend, The event was a true reflection of the spirit of unity and support within the community of Dokolo district. ‎‎
The politicians, along with the Christians, have shown great solidarity towards the roofing of Atur A church. ‎
