DOKOLO: Residents of Ajokdong village, a small but vibrant community located in Adwoki parish, Agwata sub county in Dokolo district was abuzz with excitement as members of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party gathered for a Barazza meeting and village election.

‎However, the focus of the day soon shifted to a pressing topic – the political fate of Uganda’s high commissioner to South Africa Paul Amoru for the 2026-2031 Dokolo North parliamentary seats.

‎As the meeting progressed, members raised their concerns and demanded answers from Amoru himself.

‎After all, he has been a key figure in the NRM party and has served as the Member of Parliament for Dokolo North in the 10th Parliament.

‎While lining behind the winner Andrew Ocen, who was then declared NRM flag bearer for Ajokdong village, the members wanted to know whether Amoru would be contesting for Dokolo North Parliamentary seat in the upcoming elections.

‎In response, Amoru stated that while he has not yet officially declared his candidature, he is still committed to serving the interests of the Ugandan government as an ambassador to South Africa.

‎He also emphasized that the final decision lies with the President of the Republic of Uganda and God.

‎Amidst the political discussions, Amoru took the opportunity to urge NRM supporters to work hard and promote peace in their communities.

‎He also encouraged them to vote for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who he believes has led the country in a positive direction.

‎Despite his role in South Africa, Amoru assured the members that he is working hand in hand with the current Dokolo North incumbent, Moses Ogwal Goli, and considers him a brother.

‎He also revealed that he has been lobbying for more opportunities for Ugandans, including scholarships for 200 students to attain a second degree.

‎The village election saw several positions within the party structures go uncontested, but there was a competitive race for the flag bearer for Local Council one of Ajokdong village with 3 candidates contesting.

‎Fortunately, the competition ended peacefully, with Andrew Ocen emerging as the winner with 37 votes followed by Nickson Olum 23 votes and lastly Alex Olec who got 7 votes.

‎Amute Tom Richard the newly elected NRM chairperson for Ajokdong village congratulated the village members including Ambassador Paul Amoru their availability and attending village Barazza and election.

‎However, some members raised a concern after the election.

‎They realized that their names were missing from the village party register and appealed to party leaders to advocate for their inclusion.

‎As we look towards the future, the NRM party members of Ajokdong village are eagerly awaiting the decision of Ambassador Paul Amoru regarding his candidature.
