Dokolo District is a community with a yearly growth population of both women and men.
While poverty is a common struggle in this district, a glimmer of hope shines through the Poverty Eradication Project that has been initiated by Bonny Alilo, who is also running for the NRM party chairperson for Dokolo.
This project, in collaboration with community groups like Paco en Paco, Can Oburo Abura, Dokolo Free of Poverty, etc is aimed at changing the lives of individuals in the community.
The project has already made an impact in the sub counties of Okwalongwen, Dokolo, Bata, Amwoma, Okwongodul, Kwera, and Kangai areas.
In an interview with LBS radio, Bonny Alilo the project Director highlighted the project’s objectives, which include training, mentoring, and providing seed capital to start businesses.
”This will not only help individuals improve their standard of living but also enable them to pay for education fees and support their families” Alilo said.
According to him a total of approximately 180 million shillings has been disbursed since October 2024, and more funding is expected to be allocated soon.
”With this financial support, the project aims to recruit even more individuals in the community, extending its reach and impact” he noted.
The project’s objectives include providing entrepreneurship training to women, offering financial support to start their own businesses, and providing education and mentorship to enhance women’s skills and knowledge.
He noted that these activities are essential in unlocking the potential of women and empowering them to become self-sufficient.
“The impact of this project goes beyond just the financial support provided to women. It is expected to create a ripple effect in the community, leading to economic growth and development”
When asked on the positivity of the project Alilo explained that “Not only will women become financially independent, but they will also contribute to the local economy, creating a positive cycle of progress and prosperity”.
He said monitoring and evaluation will be conducted regularly to assess the project’s effectiveness and make necessary changes if needed.
The Poverty Eradication Project in collaboration with over 40 community led groups in Dokolo has brought a ray of hope to the community.
