BUTALEJA: 17/05/2025, As the community of Dokolo and the larger Lango community came together to mourn the loss of their beloved late Mwima Harriet Rebecca, there was an overwhelming sense of sadness and grief.
Mwima, who had left a lasting impression on her family, friends, and colleagues, was being laid to rest on Saturday in her hometown of Busabi sub county, Bunyole West county in Butaleja district.
Mwima was a woman who was highly respected and admired, not just among her family and friends, but also in her professional life.
As the Principal Assistant Secretary of Dokolo district, she was known for her excellent communication skills and administrative abilities.
Her colleagues and superiors regarded her as an exceptional communicator and administrator, making her a valuable asset to the local government.
One of the many people who admired Mwima was George Okwir Omara, who represented the entire Pedicungkal clan where Mwima was married.
In a tribute to her, Mr. Okwir described her as a true pillar of the clan.
“Her passing has left a void that will not easily be filled,” he said, illustrating just how much Mwima meant to her community.
Former Dokolo district chairperson, John Baptist Okello Okello, had the privilege of working closely with Mwima and was full of praise for her dedication and commitment to her job.
He shared how he had helped Mwima when she wanted to further her studies and how she wanted to leave her position without being documented by her immediate supervisor.
However, with Mr. Okello’s support, Mwima was able to pursue her dreams and excel in her career.
During the funeral service, Mr. Okello took the opportunity to encourage other leaders to follow in Mwima’s footsteps and avoid greed in their positions.
He urged leaders to recognize the potential of young people and give them the opportunity to take up leadership roles, just like Mwima had been given.
Even the Resident District Commissioner of Dokolo, Barbara Akec, who also served as the chairperson of the organizing committee for Mwima’s funeral, had nothing but praise for her.
”She was an exceptional woman, dedicated to her work and always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need,” said Ms. Akec, highlighting Mwima’s kind nature and her willingness to serve her community.
Mwima’s colleagues and superiors, including Michael Wanje and Alex Felix Majeme, also praised her for her unwavering commitment and diligence in her work.
They shared fond memories of working with Mwima and how she had made a positive impact in their lives and in the community.
