Dokolo Businessman Loses Over 100 Million to Burglars

It’s a sad reality that even in the peaceful town of Dokolo, business owners are not safe from theft and crime.

‎‎This was proven when Oscar Okello, a well-known businessman, fell victim to a heinous act over the weekend. ‎‎

Thieves broke into his Agent Banking business (Oscom Uganda) and made away with over 100 million shillings in cash and equipment.‎‎

Okello, who was in Kampala at the time of the incident, recounted how unknown individuals made their way into his business premises along Dokolo – Bata road. ‎‎

Among the stolen items was 85 million shillings in cash, as well as equipments used for his Agent Banking service, which includes transactions from popular banks such as Centenary Bank, DFCU, Post Bank, Stanbic Bank, and even Mobile Money Agents.‎‎

According to Okello, the theft was even more shocking as there was a security guard present at the time. ‎‎

This highlights the need for increased security measures in the Dokolo community, especially for businesses that deal with large amounts of cash. ‎‎

The District Police Commander, Patience Baganzi, confirmed the incident saying so far three suspects are arrested with exhibits and assured that investigations are underway.‎‎

The incident raised concerns especially from the chairperson of the business community, Abel Ekol, who expressed his struggles with security operations and urged business owners to invest in their own security personnel.

‎‎He also highlighted the need for more manpower from the police department to prevent these kinds of incidents from happening again.‎‎

Fellow businessman Michael Obwor echoed these sentiments and criticized the lack of responsibility from the security personnel in protecting the community and their properties.

‎‎He also called out the use of police dogs, which are trained to identify suspects, but seemingly failed in this incident.‎‎

As the investigation into this unfortunate incident continues, it’s important for the community and the authorities to work together in ensuring the safety and security of businesses in Dokolo.

‎‎‎‎‎‎‎‎In a time where businesses are already facing challenges due to the ongoing pandemic, losing such a large sum of money can be devastating. ‎‎

It’s a reminder to all business owners in Dokolo to prioritize security measures to protect their assets and investments.‎‎

As the investigation into this unfortunate incident continues, it’s important for the community and the authorities to work together in ensuring the safety and security of businesses in Dokolo.‎‎ ‎
