Fan Interrupts Tense match to propose to girlfriend on the middle of the field.

Uganda Cranes edged neighbours South Sudan 1-0 in a Nations Cup qualified Friday evening and a fan edged the Cupid by a similar score line as well.

Call it a win-win

It wasn’t just the action on the pitch that grabbed the headlines. During the second half of the intense clash at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, an unexpected and controversial marriage proposal left fans in a sea emotions.

As the Cranes pressed forward to maintain their lead, the crowd’s focus momentarily shifted when a young man dressed in a Uganda Cranes jersey ran onto the pitch.

To everyone’s surprise, he was not there to join the game but to propose to his girlfriend seated in the stands.

The proposal came at a tense moment in the 75th minute when Uganda was still holding onto a fragile 1-0 lead, thanks to a well-placed goal by Kristopher Mugabi in the first half.

The young man got down on one knee near the halfway line, holding up a ring as security personnel rushed towards him.

His girlfriend, visibly stunned and sitting with a group of friends, appeared overwhelmed by the spectacle.

As security escorted him off the pitch, she stood up and shouted “yes,” prompting cheers and applause from the crowd.

However, not everyone in the stadium was impressed by the public display. Some fans expressed frustration, feeling that the proposal interrupted the flow of the game at a critical moment.

The incident quickly sparked debate on social media, with users split over whether the gesture was romantic or inappropriate.

Supporters of the proposal praised the man’s boldness and creativity, citing the excitement of making such a grand gesture at an international match.

Others, however, criticized him for disrupting the game, calling it a selfish move that disrespected the athletes and the importance of the fixture.

As the match resumed after a brief delay, Uganda Cranes held on to secure their 1-0 victory, solidifying their position in the qualification race.

While Uganda’s victory over South Sudan will remain in the football records with Friday Match holding Uganda at seven points topping the table in Group K.

Second-placed South Africa crushed Congo in the later game to keep level with the Cranes.

The top two from each group qualify for the expanded bloated finals.
