KWEN DISTRICT: The Presidential candidate of the National Resistance Movement party, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has expanded the scope of the cattle restocking program to include more districts in other regions.
Originally, the program was only intended for districts in the Lango, Acholi, and Teso sub-regions with each household getting 5 cows.
However, Kween District in Sebei Sub region, Abim District in Karamoja Sub region, and Bulambuli in Bugisu Sub region have now been added to the list due to the impact of past rebel conflicts and cattle rustling by the Pokot from the Karamoja sub-region.
This was announced during a campaign rally at Binyiny Primary School in Kween District, as part of the Sebei Sub-region.
Furthermore, General Museveni has confirmed plans to establish a public university for Sebei Sub-region, specifically for the Sabiny community.
“This initiative aligns with the government’s goal of establishing a public university in every sub-region of the country, which has already been implemented in other areas” he explained.
During the rally, General Museveni also addressed issues related to government programs in Kween District.
He has requested an audit of the road maintenance funds and the Parish Development Model (PDM) in the district, following reports of corruption and misuse of government funds by local officials.
The Resident District Commissioner of Kween, Hope Atuheire, had raised these allegations during the rally.
In response, General Museveni has ordered an audit into the matter and urged the people of Kween District to monitor the implementation of government programs.
He also highlighted the importance of utilizing the PDM funds for wealth creation, emphasizing that it is a form of inheritance from the government.
General Museveni has announced plans to establish a new Presidential Industrial Skilling Hub in Kween District, utilizing 500 acres of land provided by the district.
“This initiative aims to replicate the successful free skilling programs implemented in other sub-regions” Museveni said.
