HARARE, ZIMBABWE – 15 July 2026: Her Excellency Major (Rtd) Jessica Alupo, Vice President of the Republic of Uganda, today paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, at State House in Harare.

The meeting, held at 15:50 hours, comes as Vice President Alupo arrives in Zimbabwe to represent President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at tomorrow’s launch of Zimbabwe’s Africa Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Programme of Action Report.
Accompanied by Ambassador Paul Amoru and senior government officials, the Ugandan Vice President used the occasion to strengthen bilateral ties and reaffirm Uganda’s solidarity with Zimbabwe.
President Mnangagwa Highlights Growing Partnership
President Mnangagwa welcomed the visit and underscored the strong and cordial relations between the two countries. He pointed to recent high-level exchanges, including his own trip to Uganda in January 2025 for the NAM and G77+China Summits, and the attendance of Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Constantino Chiwenga, at President Museveni’s inauguration on 12 May 2026.
The President called for accelerated preparations for the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC), describing it as the key platform for expanding trade, technical collaboration, and political engagement between Zimbabwe and Uganda.

He also expressed Zimbabwe’s gratitude to Uganda for supporting its successful bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.
Additionally, President Mnangagwa congratulated President Museveni on assuming the Chairmanship of the Africa Peer Review Mechanism for 2026–2028, noting that the APRM will continue to drive Africa’s industrialization, inclusive growth, and sustainable development.
Vice President Alupo Delivers Message of Solidarity
In response, Vice PresiStateent Alupo conveyed warm greetings from President Museveni and reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to standing with Zimbabwe at regional, continental, and international levels.

She emphasised that Uganda will continue to support Zimbabwe in advancing the shared African transformation agenda, particularly through the APRM framework.
The Vice President’s visit will culminate tomorrow with the official launch of Zimbabwe’s APRM Programme of Action Report, marking the country’s full integration into the APRM process.
