Minister Engola Meets Lango NRM Leaders in Preparation for Local Council Elections

‎LIRA – The Minister of Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Sam Engola, who also doubles as Erute South MP, has called on NRM leaders in Lango Sub-region to intensify mobilization ahead of the Local Council elections scheduled next month.

‎Engola addressed a meeting of NRM leaders from Lango at St. Lira Hotel, where discussions focused on internal party preparations for the upcoming polls.

‎“I addressed a meeting of NRM leaders of Lango today at St. Lira Hotel to discuss our internal preparations ahead of the local council elections,” Engola said.

‎During the meeting, he urged party leaders and supporters to actively mobilize voters to elect NRM candidates to Local Council 1 and Local Council 2 offices, saying this was key to consolidating grassroots support for the party.

‎“I tasked our party leaders to go back to their respective jurisdictions and convene meetings so that we can internally prepare well ahead of the elections, in addition to strengthening our ground support for easy monitoring of government programs,” Engola added.

‎He assured that as NRM leaders and elected leaders under the party ticket, they are committed to ensuring that Lango gets the best services from government.

‎Government has scheduled elections for Local Council 1 representatives on 28 July 2026, while elections for Local Council 2 representatives will be held on 10 August 2026.

The meeting attracted top NRM leaders and government officials from the region. Among those in attendance were NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua, and the Director of External Affairs of the NRM, Maj. (Rtd.) Pollar Awich.

‎Other participants included Members of Parliament, the Lira Resident City Commissioner, RDCs, the Lira City Mayor, LC V Chairpersons, NRM District Chairpersons, Administrative Secretaries, and District Internal Security Officers, among others.
