DOKOLO – Dokolo NRM Party Leadership Disowns Impostor Posing as NRM Secretariat Official, Accused of Using False Claims of Documenting NRM Achievements to Solicit Money at Dokolo Technical School.
The self-proclaimed officer identified as Mr. Byebiroha David, a resident of Isingiro District is now in police custody after he was netted together with his girlfriend identified as Faibi Akaitu who was reportedly picked from Soroti City.
Byebiroha reportedly went to Dokolo technical school impersonating an officer from the NRM Secretariat claiming to be documenting NRM achievements, in an attempt to obtain money by false pretence at Dokolo Technical School.
Geoffrey Opio Ekong, the NRM Party Chairperson for Dokolo District when contacted for comment disowned the accused.
”I have never got a communication from the NRM party secretariat about someone coming for documentary of the achievements. It’s always the trend that if someone is coming from the secretariat to our district, they inform us in advance,” Opio told LBS radio on Tuesday morning.
Felix Ayini, the Deputy Principal of Dokolo Technical School confirmed the incident, saying Mr. Byebiroha David went to his office and identified himself as staff from the NRM Secretariat in Kampala City.
He said the man claimed that he was sent by the NRM party to document the developmental agenda done by the NRM government in the past 39 years, adding that after documentation it will be published during the celebration of NRM Day that is celebrated yearly on 26th January.
According to the introductory letter by Byebiroha David presented to Dokolo Technical School and seen by our reporter, he claimed he works with the NRM party Secretariat under a company called Byebiroha Publishing Company that is in charge of documenting government agenda.
Deputy Principal Ayini noted that after seeing the letter that was indicating different rates and figures to be paid for publishing achievements in the publishing company, they asked why the money was being paid but Byebiroha failed to answer, something that led the school to take action.
He said the case was registered at Dokolo Central Police Station under SD Ref No. 44/28/09/2026 under charges of criminal trespass and impersonation and police arrested Byebiroha David and his girlfriend Faibi Akaitu.
Ayini also asked women to remain vigilant about men who always come to approach them, adding that the girl who was picked by the suspect is under police custody as they were together.
Attempts to reach officers from the NRM Secretariat over the matter were futile by press time.
