“Dokolo District Demands Government Action: Key Points to be Discussed at President Museveni’s Meeting with Lango Leaders”‎‎

28th January DOKOLO: As President Museveni is set to meet with Lango leaders in Kwania on Wednesday, Dokolo district leaders have submitted eight key points to the President with hopes of addressing their pressing issues.‎‎

According to James Otoo Apili the Dokolo district chairperson, “As the President embarks on his 3-day Presidential zonal tour of Lango sub-region, it is important for the government to address the pressing issues faced by the people of Dokolo as follows;”‎‎

1. Tarmacking of Amolatar-Dokolo-Alebtong Road is one of the top priorities for the district saying this vital road serves as the main link between the districts and has been in a state of disrepair for far too long. ‎‎

2. Purchase of Boats for Fishing Community‎Otoo said Dokolo is home to a thriving fishing community, but they lack essential resources needed for their livelihood including boats, which are crucial for their daily operations.

The district is requesting the government to provide 300 boats to the fishing communities in Adeknino, Kwera, and Agwata sub counties.

3. Support for Flood Victims, ‎Floods have become a frequent occurrence in Dokolo, causing significant damage and displacing many families.‎‎ The district is calling for Government’s aid to support the flood victims in these areas.‎‎

4. Completion of Pledged Projects‎, Over the years, President Museveni has made pledges to some institutions of Dokolo, including Dokolo Technical School where he had promised to give school bus, Dokolo Girls Secondary School where he was supposed to construct a dormitory, Batta Secondary School he promised science laboratory and Amatiburu Primary School respectively.‎‎

However, these projects are yet to be completed, and the district is seeking the President’s intervention to fulfill these promises.‎‎

5. Boosting School Performance‎, Dokolo district has been struggling with poor performance in primary and secondary schools, largely due to a lack of resources. The district is calling for government support in recruiting more staff to improve the quality of education in the area.‎‎

6. Construction of District Hospital, ‎During a recent meeting held in Amolatar, the leadership of Lango district chairperson and Mayor’s forum endorsed the construction of a district hospital in Amolatar. However, Dokolo district has submitted a request to the President to prioritize the construction of the hospital in their district, citing its central location and access to six other districts.‎‎

7. Creation of Dokolo Municipality. ‎The district submitted documents for the creation of Dokolo municipality in 2017, but the process is yet to be completed.‎‎ The district is requesting the President to expedite this process and grant them municipal status.‎‎

8. War Claimants Compensation for Lango. ‎During the insurgency in Northern Uganda, many people in Lango were affected, resulting in loss of property and displacement. The district is requesting the government to provide compensation for those who suffered as war claimants.‎‎

As the district eagerly awaits President Museveni’s response to their eight key points, they hope that their urgent issues will finally receive the attention and support they deserve. ‎
