Dokolo Journalists Set June 29 for Belated World Press Freedom Day Celebration 2026.‎

DOKOLO – 3 May annually acts as a reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom and is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics among others.

‎This year’s celebration is under the theme  “Shaping a Future at Peace:Promoting Press Freedom for Human Rights, Development, and Security.”

‎As the world celebrated it on May 3rd, the journalists in Dokolo have set a different date for their belated celebration – June 29th, 2026.

‎This decision was made by the Dokolo Journalists Development Association (DJDA), representing the journalists in the district of Dokolo and neighbouring districts.

‎In a meeting held on Tuesday at Low cost guest house, the chairperson of the association, Stephine Opio Ongora, confirmed the news and shared some insights into the preparations for the event.

‎According to Ongora, the celebration was originally planned for May 3rd, 2026, but due to other commitments, it had to be postponed.

‎He also mentioned that the association has already begun its preparations for the event, which is expected to bring together all journalists from different parts of Lango, Teso, and Kuman.

‎In order to make this event a success, the association is seeking support from individuals, organizations, and leaders. Ongora emphasized on the importance of collective efforts in showcasing the role of journalists and promoting press freedom in the society.

‎The Dokolo Journalists Development Association’s belated World Press Freedom Day celebration on June 29th, 2026 is a testament to their commitment towards promoting press freedom and bringing attention to the impact of media industry in the community .
