Over 1,000 Girls and Young Women in Dokolo Receive Startup Kits from MUJHU Project

DOKOLO – More than 1,000 adolescent girls and young women in Dokolo District have received startup kits from Makerere University John Hopkins University project, (MUJHU).

‎MUJHU, is a great pride indigenous medical research and care organization that has been serving the community since 1988 and actively involved in providing community HIV programs and conducting non-HIV related research.

‎While distributing the startup kits, Jimmy Odea, the Project Coordinator of MUJHU in Dokolo District, said a total of 1,087 adolescent girls and young women received the kits.

‎Of these, 600 beneficiaries were from Agwata Sub County and 487 from Agwata Town Council.

‎He said adolescent girls and young women aged 15–24 face interconnected social, economic, and health vulnerabilities.

‎The beneficiaries were recruited on July 6, 2025 and under went training in different skills including tailoring, bakery, bag making, craft shoe making, and liquid soap making, among others.

‎Nakaluuba Liberty Stella, the Project Officer for MUJHU, said they are working to empower beneficiaries financially by donating the kits to them with support from The AIDS Support Organisation (TASO) and the Global Fund.

‎Nakaluuba added that they are extending the services to all sub counties and town councils in Dokolo.

‎She urged applicants to register to be trained in other beneficial skills such as mechanics, welding, and construction, saying MUJHU is ready to provide the startup kits.

‎Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to our reporter expressed excitement, saying the skills acquired and the kits donated by the MUJHU project will transform their livelihoods.

‎Meanwhile, Sharon Tino, the Community Development Officer for Agwata Sub County, cautioned the beneficiaries against selling the kits but to utilize them properly to transform their lives.
