KAMPALA – Dokolo South County Member of Parliament, Vincent Opito, has called on government, through the Ministry of Health, to implement President Yoweri Museveni’s directive on developing health services across the country, with specific focus on Dokolo District.

Speaking on Wednesday during the 10th Sitting of the 1st Meeting of the 1st Session of the 12th Parliament, Opito said the President recently emphasized the need to strengthen health services nationwide during his State of the Nation Address.
According to Opito, Dokolo Town Council and Kangai Sub County are still operating without Health Center IIIs, contrary to government health policy and the population demands in the area.
He raised concern that Dokolo Health Center IV, which serves a large number of patients from Dokolo and neighboring districts, is operating without a maternity ward and a male ward.
“Dokolo HCIV is handling very many numbers but has no maternity ward and no male ward. I ask the Ministry of Health to intervene so that Dokolo can move forward,” Opito told Parliament.
Opito also thanked government for considering the construction of the Dokolo Heritage Center at Kangai Town Council. The site marks where Kabaka Mwanga and Omukama Kabalega were captured by colonial forces in 1899.
However, he asked government to tarmac the road leading to the heritage center to ease access for tourists and locals.
“If the site construction is done, there is need for a better road from Amolatar – Dokolo – Otuke to Abim District,” Opito said. “That road will boost trade and tourism in Lango and the neighboring districts.”
The MP said upgrading both health infrastructure and road networks in Dokolo will help translate the President’s commitment to service delivery into tangible results for the people.
Parliament is expected to refer the matter to the relevant committees for follow-up with the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Works and Transport.
