DOKOLO – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Paul Amoru, has sent a message of condolence to the family of a father and his three sons who drowned in Lake Kwania, saying that although he serves abroad, Dokolo remains in his heart.
On Sunday, 16th August 2026, Ogwang Richard, 52, left his home in Idaiol village, Alapata Parish, Bata Sub-county, Dokolo North, to discuss the traditional marriage of his daughter in Acullobo village, Amiaberidwogo Parish, Ibuje Sub-county, Apac District.
He was accompanied by his three sons: Angulu Kenneth, 26, Opio Maxwell, 23, and Odeng Gerald, 19.
After the initial dowry payment was negotiated, the family started their journey back to Dokolo District. They boarded a dugout canoe to cross a flooded section of the road connecting Corner Amii through Alworoceng Atapara Junction but never reached home.
The bodies of Richard, Kenneth and Maxwell were recovered and buried on Monday 17th August at night. The remains of Gerald were recovered three days later, on 19th August.
A memorial service was held on Tuesday at their ancestral home, led by Father Elvis Francis Ojok of Bata Sub-Parish.
Fr. Ojok warned believers against holding anger in their hearts for long, saying God does not stay in a heart where anger is.
In his condolence message conveyed through the Councilor representing Bata Town Council to Dokolo District, Rafael Okello, Amb. Amoru said it is extremely painful to lose four family members in a tragic water accident.
He prayed for heavenly comfort for the remaining family members and contributed 300,000 Uganda Shillings to support the family.
”Much as I stay abroad, I still have zeal to stay with and support my community,” Amoru said.
Dokolo District LC5 Chairperson, Peter Ogwang, also sent his message of comfort to the family.
He narrated how he was informed about the tragedy and immediately engaged the leadership of Apac District Local Government to aid the recovery of the bodies.
Lira Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Abang Beatrice Molly Kia, said God has plans for every person on earth and called for comfort for the bereaved family.
She advised the widow, who has been staying in Apac District, to come back home, in reference to the message by the man of God about not holding anger for long.
Dr. Rosemary Alwoc Ogwal through the Cecilia Atim Ogwal foundation also support the family with 200,000.
Represented by Grace Angom, the foundation calls for unity in the community.
