Dokolo District has registered a significant milestone in road infrastructure development following the official handover of 19.2 kilometers constructed in the third quarter by the District Local Government.

‎‎The commissioning ceremony held today was officiated by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner, Mr. Masaba Ismael, who commended the Engineering department for delivering the project and emphasized the government’s commitment to improving rural infrastructure. ‎‎

Among the roads that were commissioned are Alenga – Atabu 6.2 km at a total cost of UGX 30 million and Alwitmac – Awiri – Corner Salim 13 km at a total cost of UGX 50 million.

‎‎Speaking at the event, Eng. Geoffrey Opori, Assistant Engineer-Dokolo DLG, highlighted some of the challenges that caused delays in their operations, such as mechanical breakdowns and mismanagement of constructed roads by the community.

‎‎Hon. Daniel Okwir, Chairperson of Works and Production, stated that he observed significant shoddy work on the roads. He emphasized that there are no standards for these roads and called for improvements in the next financial year.‎‎

Peter Ogwang, LCV Chairperson of Dokolo, stressed that there are many government programs urging the community to make the best use of them. ‎‎

Ogwang urged residents to take collective responsibility in maintaining the road to ensure its sustainability and long-term benefits.‎‎

The improved road network is expected to connect the community to markets, health centers, schools, among others.

‎‎Community members expressed gratitude to the Government of Uganda and Dokolo District Local Government for prioritizing their area. ‎‎

They noted that poor road conditions had previously limited their access to reliable markets, health units, and schools; hence, they affected the development of their areas.

‎However, with the new road in place, the community is optimistic about better market linkages, increased trade, easy access to health facilities, schools, and improved household livelihoods. ‎‎

After months of dedicated work, the road is now complete and ready for use by the community. ‎‎

The completion of the Alenga – Atabu 6.2 km and Alwitmac – Awiri – Corner Salim 13 km marks another step forward in strengthening rural road infrastructure and networking in Dokolo District.‎
