DOKOLO – Students have been urged to strike a balance between talent and academics to secure a brighter future while still nurturing their abilities.
The call was made over the weekend during a friendly football match organized by Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery at the Dokolo Progressive Secondary School Playground.
The sporting event brought together students from the two institutions, with both girls’ and boys’ teams competing aimed at promoting talent, friendship, teamwork and cooperation between the schools.
In the girls’ encounter, Dokolo Progressive Secondary School emerged victorious with a 4–0 win over Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery. In the boys’ match, Dokolo Progressive Secondary School also secured a 2–0 victory.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Osika Franchise, Team Manager of Dokolo Progressive Secondary School, expressed his appreciation to the administration of Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery for organizing the friendly match.
Osika described the event as an important platform for students to showcase their talents, build friendships and strengthen cooperation between the two institutions.
He, however, reminded the students that talent alone is not enough and encouraged them to remain focused on their academic goals.
He further urged the leadership of Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery to continue organizing similar activities, pledging continued cooperation between the two institutions.
Meanwhile, Daniel Elem, Team Manager of Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery, encouraged students to combine their talents with education so that they can excel academically while developing their sporting abilities.
Elem also used the occasion to encourage students to consider pursuing nursing and midwifery courses, particularly those who have completed Senior Four and Senior Six.
He pledged that students who choose to join Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery would be recognized and supported for their talents and encouraged them to consider the institution for their professional training.
Elem further cautioned students against risky behaviours, including excessive alcohol consumption, early sexual activities and association with negative peer groups, warning that such behaviours could destroy their talents, education and future careers.
Student leaders from Dokolo School of Nursing and Midwifery also encouraged their fellow students to consider nursing and other health-related courses, describing the nursing profession as an important career dedicated to saving and improving lives.
The friendly match ended with Dokolo Progressive Secondary School recording victories in both the girls’ and boys’ categories.
Despite the results, the event provided an opportunity for students from both institutions to interact, showcase their talents and strengthen the relationship between the two schools.
The leaders emphasized that sport and education should complement each other, with students encouraged to pursue excellence both on the field and in the classroom.
