A section of locals and boda-boda riders of Ochero town council in Kaberamido district are demanding the transfer of traffic police officers in the area over alleged extortion.

They have expressed this in a petition dated 14th July 2021, signed by over fifty people and addressed to the regional police commander, East Kyoga seeking his intervention in the matter.

The lead petitioner William Owae says the officers are corrupt.

The accused officers include Inspector of Police Patrick Otika, Peter Kyomuhangi, and another only identified as Isodat.

The petitioners alleged that the officers are harassing Boda boda riders innocently, extorting money and promoting burglary in the district.

They are also threatening that if no response is made to their request, they will stage a protest against the accused police officers.

The regional police spokesperson for East Kyoga Oscar Ageca when contacted by LBS Radio said they haven’t received a copy of the petition yet but was quick to add that the information reached them.

This is not the first time that traffic officers in Kaberamido district are in the spotlight over corruption allegations.

Recently, Patrick Otika faced it rough when he allegedly assaulted one Charles Osendro, a Lira-based journalist who was on duty from Amolatar and was made to compensate Osendro shs forty thousand.
