Alebtong District on the spotlight over ‘fraudulent’ procurement of vehicle

By Jaspher Ouni

Alebtong district local government has been accused of fraudulent procurement of a vehicle for the administration department.

The district council had in the financial year 2020/2021 approved the procurement of a land cruiser for the administration department at Shs 220 million.

The procurement unit of the district later awarded the contract to supply the vehicle to cooper Motors Corporation Uganda limited.

Last week on Thursday, the vehicle, a Toyota double cabin pickup registration number LG 0066 004 was delivered to the district but was ‘rejected’ by some district officials on ground that it does not possess the specifications provided for in the budget.

However, a district official who asked not to be named said the specifications in the vehicle which was budgeted for were not followed.

The official alleges that the vehicle which was brought does not cost more than Shs 160 million.

Boniface Odongo, the secretary finance and administration at Alebtong district local government says vehicle was delivered to the district although they are yet to verify its details with the procurement.
