Media Lauded For Building Peace In Northern Uganda

Dokolo. Mr. John Baptist Okello the Regional Vice-Chairperson of Forum for Democratic Change in a statement said lack of information can at any stage of a conflict make people desperate and restless.

Mr. Okello made the statement while officiating as the Chief Guest during the end-of-year awards organized to motivate Dokolo FM listeners in Dokolo. He says the information broadcast by community radios has addressed the locals directly in managing conflicts such as land wrangles and gender-based violence amongst others.

“Media plays a vital role in promoting peace and resolving conflicts. Before the radio came to Dokolo there were many continued land wrangles but the invention of the radio in the North has drastically changed people’s minds towards mediation during conflict resolution” Okello adds.

Information that is sourced professionally, articulated in a language and manner the community understands leads to transformation. Mr. Eladu encouraged the spirit of cooperation amongst the radios to continue as this would be good for the region.
