Nabbanja tells Basoga not to rely on sugar cane growing

Bugweri – The Prime Minister of Uganda Rt Hon Nabbanja Robinah urges the people of Busoga to stop relying on sugar cane growing as the only income-generating activity.While in Bugweri on Sunday, Nabbanja asked the people of Busoga to stop growing sugar cane alone because such ventures will only keep them in poverty.

Nabbanja was in Bugweri district at the invitation of Ugandan Ambassador to UAE Kibedi Zaake.

While addressing commercial farmers at Bugweri district hall Nabbanja said that land has become scarce and now people must start intensive farming to meet the current demands.

She said those with less than four acres of land should not grow sugarcane but grow high-value crops such as onions, avocado, and vegetables engage in piggery, poultry and zero-grazing to increase their household income.

The prime Minister on landing in Bugweri paid a courtesy visit to the widow of late Alhaji Kirunda Kivejinja and discussed a number of issues with her. She paid respect to the fallen hero.

Nabbanja visited several groups of women and youths and later presided over a fundraising drive for the construction of a church at St. Paul Buwoya COU where over 20m was realized in cash and pledges.

The prime Minister donated over 10m and pledged to support them with iron sheets for roofing.

Several MPs, Local leaders, and other government officials graced the visit.
