Kampala-As part of their golden jubilee celebrations, the diocese of Kampala has organized a charity walk aimed at raising resources to bring hope and transformation in the slums of Kampala.
The walk, dubbed Archbishop’s Jubilee Slum Transformation Charity walk, will be held on 20th August 2022 ahead of the climax of celebrations to mark 50 years of the diocese on 21st August 2022.
The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda Dr Samuel Kazimba Mugalu who is also the diocesan bishop will headline the walk which will be flagged off at St. Stephen’s C.O.U Kisugu at 7:30am on the aforementioned date.
Addressing a press conference at All Saints Cathedral Kampala on Thursday, Dr. Kazimba said the charity walk will be used to engage with the slum communities and extend the gospel to them.
“This charity walk will be an annual event to raise resources to bring hope and transformation in the slums of Kampala. This year’s proceeds will go to support the Kanyogoga Project which is bringing hope in Namuwongo informal settlements.” Said Archbishop Kazimba
The diocese of Kampala has since April this year been engaged in a number of activities to mark its golden jubilee. They include tree planting, medical camps and cleanup exercises in slum communities among others
With only few days left to the climax of the celebrations on 21st August 2022, the diocese is set to conduct;
1. Another Medical Camp at St. Paul’s Kiwuliriza Parish in Namuwongo this Sunday on 7th August 2022 beginning at 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
2. Jubilee Gospel Match on 13th August 2022 starting from All Saints Cathedral Kampala at 8:00am.
3. Mission outreach to Katanga Community in Wandegeya, different police stations and KCCA Medical Centers on Thursday 18th August 2022.
4. Business Exhibitions starting Friday 19th to Sunday 21st August at All Saints Cathedral Kampala aimed at promoting innovations and self-sustainability among believers.
5. Other activities such as those targeting youth and children including the Children’s Jubilee Celebration on Saturday 13th August 2022 and the Youth Leaders Summit both at All Saints’ Cathedral Kampala on Saturday 20th August 2022 starting at 8:00 a.m.
Kazimba says the climax of the celebrations on 21st August 2022 will be in the new sanctuary of All Saints Cathedral Kampala which accommodates over 5,000 people. President Yoweri Museveni is expected to be the chief guest at the function.
