Agago RDC investigates leaders for diverting iron sheets

Agago -The Deputy RDC of Agago district on Wednesday recovered 70 pieces of iron sheets that were meant to be distributed to victims of the Karamojong attacks.

Last month the Office of the Prime Minister delivered 1,200 pieces of iron sheets to be distributed to at least 40 families in Lira Kato, Omiya Pachwa, Adilang Town Council, Wol sub-county, and Adilang Sub-County. Each of the beneficiaries was meant to receive 30 pieces of iron sheets.

However, Susan Moro Akot, said that she received information from beneficiaries in Adilang sub-county that 90 pieces of their iron sheets were being hidden in the house of Charles Dickens Olanya in Lala Central Ward, and set to be distributed among sub-county leaders.

Akot went to Olanya’s house and recovered 70 out of the 90 pieces of iron sheets and promised to ensure that they were given to the rightful beneficiaries.

Olanya said that the 90 iron sheets were delivered to his home by Patrick Odoch, the LCI of Lawireng Kamorono Village in Adilang Sub-county, and his secretary Robin Ojok, who asked him to temporarily keep them.

According to Olanya, they later gave 20 iron sheets to Santo San Ongom, the LCIII of Adilang Town Council, while 20 were to be given to the LCIII of Adilang Sub-County, Mohamed Okwir, who was yet to collect them.

Olanya explained that he did not know the iron sheets were stolen until his brother who is a victim of the Karamojong attacks and was meant to receive them saw them in his house and informed the Deputy RDC.

Olanya made a written commitment in the presence of Akot and the District Internal Security Officer Annet Akua, promising that iron sheets shall not leave his house without the notice of the district leaders.

Santo San Ongom, LCIII of chairperson Adilang Town Council, could not be reached because his phone number was off. The LC1 of Lawireng Kamorono village Patrick Odoch and his Secretary Robin Ojok declined to comment on the matter.
