Plan International Uganda, a non-governmental organization operating in Lango and Acholi sub-regions donated items worth shillings 220 million to support the fight against coronavirus.

The regional manager of Plan international Uganda Patrick Imukule today handed over the items to the leaders of Lira city, Lira district, Alebtong, Otuke, Kwania, and Kole at their offices in Lira city.

The donation includes personal protective equipment (PPE’s) for frontline health workers, sanitizers, liquid soaps, gumboots, 8700 liters of fuel among others.

Imukule said with the support, they hope the health workers will have the confidence to make covid-19 responses and attend to those in critical condition.

The acting district health officer Alebtong Dr. Tonny Odung said the donation came at a time when the battle against covid-19 second wave is tense considering the high rate of infection.

The resident city commissioner Lira, Lawrence Egole implored the government to borrow a leaf from non-governmental organizations on timely interventions to emergencies without involving rigidity and bureaucracies to delay the process.
