The construction of a 2km bridge on Amodo swamp which borders the Dokolo and Lira districts at Okwongodul sub-county has stalled.

The construction of the bridge started in the financial year 2018/19 and was being done by the ministry of works and transport.

It was envisaged that the bridge would facilitate the smooth running of businesses between the two districts and beyond.

The bridge is supposed to connect Lira to Dokolo, Kaberamaido, and Amolatar districts via Agwata and Kwera sub-counties.

The former Member of Parliament for Dokolo North constituency Paul Amoru Omiat said the 10th parliament appropriated shs 2.6 billion for Amodo bridge.

Amoru says the current leadership should take up the matter and follow up with the government so that the construction can be completed within the stipulated time.

However, the Dokolo district chairperson James Apili Otoo attributed the problem to the increased water level in the swamp which could not allow them to proceed with works.

The resident district commissioner of Dokolo Anna Odongo Lumumba committed to following up the matter with the ministry of works and transport.

Amos Ogwal, a resident of Apenyoweo parish, Okwongodul sub-county said the delay in the construction of Amodo bridge has greatly affected their businesses after cutting transport from both sides of the swamp.
