Lira Catholic Diocese has named 2nd September 2021 as the new date in which one Deacon will be Ordained into the order of Priesthood and 4 seminarians ordained into the order of deaconate.

The ordination was earlier meant to take place in mid-July but was postponed due the spike in the number of positive cases of covid-19 second wave which eventually led to closure of churches and schools.

Speaking to Lango Broadcasting Service (LBS) Radio in an exclusive interview Thursday evening, the Vocations Director of Lira Diocese Rev. Fr. Denis Omara confirmed that the ordination will take place at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral with the Bishop Ordinary, Rt Rev Sanctus Lino Wanok leading the Eucharist celebrations.

According to Fr Omara, as a precaution to prevent the spread of covid-19, only a limited number of parishioners have been invited to represent the larger number of the catholic community of the Diocese during the ordination.

LBS has learnt that the candidates have officially received their letters  of acceptance officially confirming that  the Catholic Church has accepted them to be ordained into their various orders and are now set to report for the retreat on Monday next week, this marks the final bits of preparation to receive holy orders.

Rev Deacon Aaron Okello from Lira Cathedral will be ordained a priest mean while five Seminarians including Emmanuel Opio Etam and Moses Edyomo from Dokolo Catholic Parish will be ordained as Deacons.

The other three seminarians to be ordained as Deacons are Douglas Ogwal from Teboke Catholic Parish, Rogers Okello from the newly established Omoro Catholic Parish and Isaac Ojok from Aloi Catholic Parish.

Fr. Omara says the church is happy and blessed to receive the new clergy asking the Christian community to support the candidates through prayers so that their ordination and overall calling be for the good of the Church and God’s people.
