Among Distances Self From Naming MPs For EALA Games

Kampala Dec 1,2021

Deputy speaker of parliament, Anita Annet Among has told off captains in charge of the various sports disciplines not to peddle rumors that she and her senior Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanyah are behind the selection of participants for the East Africa inter-parliamentary games, but carry their own cross.

Among was reacting to a matter raised by Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko who during Monday’s plenary sitting remarked that reports had emerged within the training field that some MPs have been struck off list based on how they voted in the highly contested speakership race.

Nsereko said that people are complaining that they have been left out from the different disciplines they have been training in and that only those that come and plead in a good manner are the ones that are considered.

“If people want to peddle battles of previous elections into sports and disciplines, then it will divide the entire house the way we have been moving. As a unifier, it’s my prayer Rt. Hon. speaker that if we cannot cause the committee for the whole house to sit and talk about certain matters then call us in all those disciplines which you are aware of and we speak as a joint house so that we move out of the country carrying the flag and banner of Uganda. “Submitted Nsereko

The deputy speaker fired back saying the speaker held a meeting with Prime Minister and Leader of Opposition and discussed source of funding for the games, but none of the trio was involved in drafting a list of the participants adding that the decision was made by captains of the different disciplines.

“Stop those idle talks in the corridors that I have been told to remove you. I’m not a sports person. Take your responsibility and carry your own cross. Don’t start apportioning blame. Whoever is removing members should not say it’s the speakers because our only work is to facilitate. So if you have your issues sort them out. For us what we want is for the team to go for sports.” Said Among

Ugandan parliament is slated to travel to Arusha-Tanzania to participate in the 2021 inter-parliamentary games that will be held between 4th December and 17th December 2021.

Among the different disciplines to be competed include football, netball, volley ball, basketball, athletics and others.

Nsereko revealed that Shs 35 billion had been approved to facilitate the Uganda team travelling to Arusha, .
