Judiciary holds special session in honour of Justice Opio

Kampala – A special Supreme Court Session in honour of the Late Justice Rubby Opio Aweri is underway at the Judiciary headquarters in Kampala.

The session is presided over by a panel of five Justices of the Supreme Court led by the Chief Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny Dollo.

The others are Stella Arach Amoko,Faith Mwondha, Percy Tuhaise and Mike Chibita.

The motion to commemorate the life and service of Justice Apio Aweri has been moved by Deputy Attorney General Jackson Kafuuzi and supported by Chief Administrator of Courts Sarah Langa Siu.

The body of Justice Opio will also lay in state (Parliament) on Tuesday in honor of his distinguished service and career as a judicial officer for close to four decades.

At the time of his demise last week, the 69 year old Judge was also the Chief Inspector of Courts.

Justice Opio succumbed to stroke at Mulago National Referral Hospital on Wednesday and will be laid to rest on Friday December 16 at Acungapanyi Cell in Dokolo District.
