Kalaki- Police at Kalaki Central Police Station are holding a woman accused of stealing a newborn baby on New Year’s Day.

The suspect only identified as Eunice operates a drug shop in Nakasero village, Otuboi Sub County Kalaki district.

She allegedly stole the baby from Kakure Health Centre II in Kalaki district after disguising herself as a worker at the facility.

Doreen Iguro, the mother of the baby told our reporter that after delivering, the suspect informed her that the baby needed further management but did not specify.

Lawrence Engwau, the baby’s father who was an attendant says the baby disappeared while he was out of the facility to buy some items for the baby.

He notes that he reported the matter to the police after suspecting the baby had been stolen.

“We recovered the baby this morning with the help of the police at Kalaki CPS safe from the rented room of the woman. She was immediately arrested and taken to CPS,” says Engwau

Police officers at Kalaki CPS declined to speak to our reporter about the matter.

David Ekimu, one of the residents of Nakasero village told LBS Newsday that Eunice, who opened a drug shop in the area last year has been telling people that she was pregnant. He however said the suspect wasn’t showing any signs of pregnancy until Sunday when she appeared with a newly born baby girl.
