Paul Omara, Judith Alyek to face off for Chair Lango Parliamentary Group .

As the date for the election of office bearers for the prestigious leadership positions of Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG) draws closer, the election fever is increasing day by day as aspirants scramble for different posts.

Last week, LBS Radio broke the news about the date for the election of leaders of Lango Parliamentary Group which has been scheduled for the 20th of August 2021.

As of now the leading digital content radio in Northern Uganda has established that Otuke County Member of Parliament Hon Paul Omara will lock horns with Kole District Woman Member of Parliament also chair for the Parliamentary committee on Equal Opportunity for the Chairperson of LPG.

Paul Omara has in many occasions intimated via different radio talk shows about harboring interest to lead LPG as its chairperson to  champion the development agenda and interest of the people of Lango.

To bolster his ambition , Omara in the last three sittings of Parliament has been raising pertinent issues which is at the heart of the people of Lango.

First he roared about the effects of drought which has affected a significant population of the people in the sub region asking the Office of the Prime Minister to provide a solution.

Second came in the issue of upgrading to bitumen of Rwenkunye-Apac-Lira-Puranga 191 Kilometer road and the delayed payments of the war claimants in Lango.

Kole District Woman Member of Parliament Judith Alyek Odongo is also in the race for the Chairperson of Lango Parliamentary Group. If she wins, Alyek would be the second female MP to lead LPG in that position after Oyam South’s Betty Amongi Ongom.

Alyek boasts of Parliamentary leadership experience she has acquired over the time, in the 10th Parliament where she served as Chairperson Committee on HIV/Aids, recently the ruling party designated her to serve as chair of the committee on Equal Opportunities.

In the 10th Parliament, Alyek has also equally been very vocal in the issues that affect the people of Lango and she hopes to ride on that.

In an interview with LBS, Alyek said the position will help to strengthen the sub region’s ties with government and deliver the previous government pledges to the people of Lango.

For the position of vice chairperson, Kyoga County’s Moses Junior Okot Bitek has confirmed expression of interest for the position of Vice-Chairperson.

The other legislator who might tussle it out with Okot Bitek is Oyam County North Member of Parliament Col (rtd) Charles Patrick Okello Engola Macodwogo.

Otuke County East’s Olympian Julius Acon Bua is running for the position of Treasurer.

For now no MP has expressed interest for the position of General Secretary and Secretary for information and publicity.
