Stop dragging me into “poison drama”- Baryomunsi warns Enanga, Kiwanda

Kampala– The Minister of ICT and National Guidance Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has discredited police spokesperson Fred Enanga for being unprofessional after he was summoned over former Speaker of Parliament late Jacob Oulanyah poison claims.

While addressing a press conference on Monday, Enanga listed names of individuals that police were summoning over speculations that Oulanyah was poisoned even after the government issued a report indicating that the Former Speaker died of natural causes.

The list also included Oulanyah’s father Mzee Nathan Okori, National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, National Resistance Movement (NRM) vice chairperson for Buganda region Godfrey Kiwanda, Kilak South MP Gilbert Olanya, Aruu North County MP Santa Okot, Northern Uganda based musician Bosmic Otim, selected cultural and local leaders as well as several other bloggers.

The police spokesperson said Baryomunsi will be summoned by extension after NRM Vice Chairperson for Buganda region, Godfrey Kiwanda said he had told him about the poison claims last year.

Responding to Enanga’s comments on Tuesday, Minister Baryomunsi challenged Enanga to be professional while handling his work noting that summons are not issued through press conferences. He also took a swipe at Kiwanda whom he warned against dragging his name in his drama.

Baryomunsi noted that he has severally mentioned his stand agreeing with government’s report about Oulanyah’s cause of death as issued by health minister doctor Dr. Ruth Aceng which indicates that Oulanyah succumbed to multiple organ failure from a hospital in Seattle, USA.

“I don’t know whether I’m being summoned because of this statement. I know Hon kiwanda appeared on a radio talk show and mentioned my name in his submissions. Now I want to warn hiim and Enanga to stop mixing me in the drama of poison. Also, police should be professional in the way it conducts investigations. Summons are not issued through press conferences. It is CID that prepares summons and they are delivered to the people who are summoned.” Said Minister Baryomunsi

He added “as a politician I have supporters and voters, I have received calls from all over, people are concerned about my involvement in this.

The minister also condemned the manner in which Mzee Okori, the late speaker’s father was summoned when he is still mourning his son’s death

“Even it is improper to start issuing summons to a man who has buried his son just a few days. Like I have said before may be Oulanyah’s father needs counseling so that he can come to terms with the loss of his son. At this rate, Enanga might summon end up summoning Oulanyah since his father says its him who informed him (Okori)” Charged Baryomunsi

Enanga says the summoned individuals need to provide them with a chain of evidence of how the crime was committed allegedly beyond reasonable doubt, by whom, how the poison was acquired, proof of access to the victim whether directly or indirectly, and any parallel certificate of death, to help substantive their version of cause of death.
