Two NMS staff confirmed dead in Oyam accident

Oyam- Two staff of National Medical Stores (NMS) perished in an accident along Lira-Kamdini highway on Thursday evening.

The deceased have been identified as Alex Muzora 40 years old, a driver and Caro Ainembabazi (28) who were delivering government drugs to Otuke district.

It’s alleged that the vehicle Registration Number UBJ 625X Fuso Box Body which belongs to NMS and being driven by Muzora and another staff Ainembabazi were coming from Entebbe loaded with government drugs to be delivered to Otuke district, however on reaching Loro at around 6:30 pm, the driver lost control and vehicle overturned after a tyre burst.

“Report reached police in Oyam district and immediately a team of police officers led by the District Police Commander rushed to the scene and confirmed the incident,” said Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga police spokesperson in a statement on Friday morning.

He added, “Dead bodies were removed from the vehicle and conveyed to Anyeke Health IV where postmortem is to be conducted this morning,”

Okema noted that wreckage of the vehicle has been towed to Loro police station pending IOV inspection.

“The Regional Manager of National Medical Stores Northern Rogers Ochan was contacted who immediately liaised with National Medical Stores Management in Entebbe and another vehicle was sent to pick the drugs back to Entebbe for reloading to be delivered to Otuke as earlier planned,” he said

Police say preliminary findings of the cause of the accident is tyre burst.
