Uganda Shecranes rewarded for exceptional performance at Netball World Cup

South Africa – The Uganda Shecranes team has received a cash reward and an exciting invitation in recognition of their outstanding performance at the ongoing Netball World Cup in Cape Town.

According to Uganda High Commission in Pretoria, Dr. Kihura Nkuba Nkamuhayo, a renowned Ugandan investor based in South Africa gifted each player with 5000 Rand, amounting to 1 million Uganda Shillings, as a token of appreciation for their tremendous achievements.

Dr. Nkamuhayo also extended his support by offering the entire delegation an all-expenses-paid two-day trip to the exquisite Lunikhy Game Farm. Nestled on the border of Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces, this luxury game farm expands across 2800 hectares of unspoilt African bushveld.

“The gracious offer includes a thrilling game drive, mouthwatering braai, and comfortable accommodation for all members of the Shecranes team,” the Mission said in a statement on Sunday evening.

The handover ceremony was officiated by Joyce Kaducu the Minister of State for Primary Education and representative of Uganda’s Minister of Education and Sports, Mama Janet Museveni.

Joined by Ambassador Paul Amoru, Rakai Woman MP Juliet Kyinyamatama, and Gen. Flavia Bwekwaso, Minister Kaducu expressed deep appreciation to Mama Janet for her unwavering support, love, and guidance provided to the Shecranes. The Minister also commended the players for their exceptional discipline, which contributed significantly to their phenomenal performance.

Ambassador Amoru, on his part, conveyed his gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Sports, led by Minister  Janet, for introducing a supportive policy framework aimed at identifying, supporting, and nurturing talents in Uganda.

Ambassador Amoru commended the brilliant performance of the Shecranes team and their technical staff, who have remarkably elevated the Ugandan flag to the rest of the world.

He also announced that Uganda and South Africa are in the advanced stages of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the field of sports.

Ambassador Amoru expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Nkamuhayo for his exceptional generosity and pledged to continue working closely with the Ugandan diaspora to promote commercial and economic diplomacy, as well as sports development.

He appealed to the leadership of the Netball Federation to prioritize the best interests of the players and the country in their decisions and actions.

“The Uganda High Commission in Pretoria congratulates the Uganda Shecranes team on their brilliant performance at the Netball World Cup, bringing immense pride to our nation,” the statement said, adding “We extend our deepest gratitude to all those who have contributed to the recognition and rewards honoring the extraordinary talents displayed by the Shecranes.”

The Shecranes are turning out to be a force to be reckoned with at the World Cup in Cape Town.

Action between Uganda and Singapore

On Friday last week, the team secured its first victory over Singapore in the opening game of the ongoing Netball World Cup in South Africa. The Shecranes which is making its fourth World Cup appearance, outsmarted Singaporeans in all quarters and finally ended the game with an impressive 79-37 scoresheet.

On Saturday, the team put up a strong performance but fell to Netball World Cup defending champions New Zealand in their second game at the 2023 Edition.

Uganda put in a dominating performance to score a resounding 74-33 victory over Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday thereby qualifying for quarter finals.
