Nakaseke: Sub-county chief, cashier held over theft of gov’t funds

Nakaseke – Police in Nakaseke are holding a sub-county chief and a cashier over alleged theft of government funds.

The suspects Charles Gordon Muwonge, the sub-county chief, and Joachim Sebusolo, the cashier of Kikamulo sub-county in Nakaseke district were arrested on Thursday at around 7 p.m.

They are accused of stealing 35 million shillings meant for the construction of Kyasa mpanga, Nsanvu, Lusozo, Manju, and Lutalaji roads all located in Kikamulo sub county Kiwoko town council in Nakaseke District.

The money is reported to have been withdrawn between July 2022 and May 2023, by the sub-county chief and the cashier since they were the signatories on the account.

Savannah region ASP Sam Twineamazima Savannah region Police spokesperson says the duo was arrested on Thursday after Kikamulo LC3 Chairperson Robert Ssenu Bogere reported the case against them to the Police.

“….a case of theft was registered, scene visited and documented by soco, audit report retrieved, relevant documents recovered and statements recorded from relevant witnesses,” said Twineamazima noting the suspects confessed to having used the money.

Twineamazima said the territorial police of Kiwoko Police Station in Nakaseke district are conducting more inquiries into the matter.
