AMOLATAR

Amolatar district local government has returned to the government treasury shillings 2.3 billion after failing to utilize it.

The money was part of the government release to the district meant for capital development projects for the last financial year 2020/2021.

On Tuesday, the district conducted hand over for the Chief administrative officer (CAO) and the outgoing CAO Damba Henry said in his handover report that they were unable to utilize the shs 2.3 billion.

Outgoing CAO Damba Henry hands over to the incoming CAO Ronald Eswilo.

Damba said the money was also meant to pay salaries for secondary school teachers, tertiary institutions, and construction of Biko and Awonangiro health centers III.

“The ministry of education posted the teachers to Muntu seed secondary school late and we were unable to update their payment details in time”, Damba said.

The LC V chairman of Amolatar Geoffrey Ocen blamed the contracts committee for awarding many projects to a single contractor who afterward fails to execute works in time.

Ocen asked leaders at all levels to take charge of all government programs by monitoring to ensure government realizes value for money.

The resident district commissioner Ms. Eve Kwesiga asked the district service commissioner to revise its way of conducting the recruitment of civil servants.

She says there are allegations that the commission considers their relatives while conducting the recruitment of civil servants.

“I wonder why there are so many people in acting capacities in the district and can not be confirmed or substantially recruited to the position they have acted for so many years”, She said.
