Residents stranded as unknown people dismantle boreholes in Alebtong

Over 200 households Alebtong district are still left in shock following an incident in which unknown people dismantled and made away with borehole parts.

The incident which occurred on Sunday night show headers of two boreholes located in Alanyi parish, Abako Sub County removed and taken to an unknown location.

The two boreholes which were dismantled are Aparango borehole and another borehole at Tyengar primary school, all in Alanyi parish.

The LC I of Aparango village Sarafino Liira told LBS Radio this morning that people who went to fetch water from the two water points in the morning found that the two boreholes were dismantled and some parts are taken away.

“My people are now walking for over two kilometers to a nearby water source to collect water,” he added.

According to Liira, the people who dismantled the boreholes went at around midnight with a motorcycle to transport the borehole spares.

Liira appealed to the sub-county leaders to come in now with a solution to fix the two water points to help people during this hard time of the covid-19 pandemic.

The LC III of Abako sub-county John Odongo confirmed that the boreholes were dismantled by unknown people adding that the sub-county is investigating those behind the incident although he said they will do something to rehabilitate the two boreholes to continue helping people.
