Four nominated for Oyam North parliamentary by-election

Oyam – Four candidates have been nominated to run for the Oyam County north parliamentary seat in the forthcoming by-election.

The four were cleared to contest during a two-day nomination exercise that concluded on Tuesday, June 20, 2023.

Among the successful candidates is National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag bearer
Samuel Engola Okello a son to the former MP Col (Rtd) Charles Okello Engola who died on May 2, 2023. Engola doubled as State Minister for Labor.

The others are Eunice Apio Otuko of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC), Freddy Newton Okello the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) flag beare and National Unity Platform’s Daniel Okello.

Richard Onoba Olar, the Returning Officer Oyam District who presided over the nomination exercise said nine people had shown interest to contest for the seat out of which four were successfully nominated.

He said harmonizing of the campaign programs will take place on Wednesday, July 21st at 10:00 at his office.

According to the Electoral Commission road map, campaigns will commence on Thursday, June 22nd and end on July 4th, 2023.

Polling will take place on Thursday, July 6th, 2023.
