KALAKI-Police fired bullets as angry protest erupted in Kalaki town over the alleged shooting of civilians by police.

Eye witness say Police on Sunday 7th November 2021 was dispersing an angry mob who wanted to lynch a suspected thief when the stray bullets hit two civilians. Two people reportedly sustained injuries from the protest and are fighting for their lives at Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.

Following the alleged shooting by Police late Sunday, a group of over 100 protesters took to Kalaki streets burning tyres and pelting stones at a police convoy. The District Police Commander of Kalaki, Edison Muhangi, denied the Police shooting saying the injuries sustained by the duo were for other things not from police bullets.

“The injuries look not to be for Police, the injuries look to be for other things, not bullets”, Muhangi added.

Muhangi says they have arrested 15 protesters including the District Youth Chairperson for Kalaki Mr. Emmanuel Oryekot on counts of inciting violence.

The case is registered under SD REF:25/07/11/2021 at Kalaki CPS. END
