Lawyer Mabirizi demands for internet connection in prison

Kampala – Jailed Lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi Kiwanuka has asked to be availed with internet services while in detention at Kitalya mini-government prison.

Mabirizi made his request on Monday before Buganda Road Court Grade one magistrate Namboozo Sanula where he had appeared to battle criminal charges relating to attacking judicial officers.

Mabirizi is privately prosecuted by fellow Lawyer and advocate Robert Rutaro.

He explains that since he is incerrated for 18 months and represents himself, he needs access to a computer, printing and photocopying services plus Internet to ably prepare for his trial.

However, the magistrate could not ably make the order to Kitalya prison authorities as there is a chain of officers to consult. She instead adjourned both Mabirizi’s request and the entire case to March 15, 2022.

Robert Rutaro says he is aggrieved by both Mabirizi and advocate Isaac Ssemakadde’s conduct of insulting judges hence instituting criminal proceedings against them.

But Mabirizi challenges the criminal charges saying they are brought against him in bad faith given the personal conflicts/ vendetta he holds with Rutaro.
