Three arrested for operating ADF training facility in Luwero

Luwero – Three people have been arrested for operating an Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels training facility in Kikubajinja zone, Kasana PWD ward, Luwero town council.

The suspects include Akba Kabanda, Umar Ajobe Kabonge and a yet to be identified man.

The Defense Ministry Spokesperson, Brigadier General Felix Kulayigye, says that they received information that Ajobe and two other people linked to the ADF were using the home to assemble a bomb.

According to Kulayigye, a team of UPDF officers raided the home Wednesday and where they found bomb making materials.

“The group has been operating under Kabanda Akbar who was involved in the bombings at Kampala CPS and parliament Avenue. He was arrested and given amnesty and now he was abused the amnesty by again going back to the activities he was doing but fortunately given intelligence we were able to capture him with Kabonge at Kabonge’s home.” Kulayigye told journalists during a guided tour of the home on Thursday.

The said bomb making materials that were found at the home of one of the suspects Umar Ajobe Kabonge in Luwero

Kulayigye says the suspects were in the process of assembling a bomb which would then be exploded in a public place.

While speaking to the media, the area local leaders said they didn’t know much about the suspects since they have not been associating with the community.

“I got information from the village defense that this home has for long been suspected. For instance, a young boy in this home told security officials that he can dismantle a gun and assemble it which raised suspicion. I know little about the owner of the house since no one was allowed to get in or out.” Said Lawrence Mwesigye Kakumba the Kasana PWD Kikubajinja councilor.

Ugandan troops and their Congolese counterparts are currently battling the rebels in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo under operation Shujaa.
