12 market vendors perish in Amuria accident

Amuria– Twelve market vendors died on spot and six others survived with injuries after a vehicle they were traveling in got an accident at Alomayin swamp along Alakaituk-Amuria road.

The accident involved a vehicle reg number UBA 670V Fuso which lost control and overturned several times on Monday at around 2:42 am

Faridah Nampiima, the traffic police spokesperson confirms the report noting that the injured were rushed to Soroti Regional Referral Hospital.

Nampiima says the cause of the accident is yet to be established as efforts to remove the wreckage are underway.

“We want to caution all lorry drivers to desist from carrying passengers on lorries as its illegal.” She warned
