Several UPDF soldiers injured in Kakira accident involving Kenyan trailer

Jinja- Nine Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) soldiers are in critical condition following an accident that happened on Wednesday evening at Kakira.

The accident involved a Kenyan registered trailer number KDH 315 A and a UPDF Tata lorry registration No H4DF 2700. The Kenyan trailer driven by a one Juma Masudi was carrying coils when it lost control and rammed into the UPDF lorry pushing it off the road.

According to Col Deo Akiiki, the UPDF deputy spokesperson, the lorry was carrying 26 UPDF students who are on internship at Crested Crane Hotel in Jinja and were going back to Magamaga barracks.

He said nine of these were critically injured and are being managed at Jinja Main Referral Hospital while 17 sustained minor injuries and have been evacuated to Magamaga level 3 UPDF hospital for treatment.

“The driver is in the hands of police and also sustained some minor injuries. We pray for a quick recovery of our troops” said Col Akiiki

Police is yet to comment on the accident.
