Masaka – One person died and seven others sustained injuries in a Wednesday morning accident in Masaka City.
The accident that happened at around 5:30 am involved a trailer reg no KBD 88Y/ZCB9381 which was loaded with matooke from Mbarara.
Preliminary information indicates that the trailer was offloading the matooke from different points and when it reached Soweto market in Masaka City
where most of the vendors were to offload their matooke, it failed to brake and went for a distance of about 2kms in the garden, overturned, killing one person on spot.
Faridah Nampiima the traffic police spokesperson identifies the deceased as Rebecca Namanda a resident of Nyendo, Masaka City.
“With the help of the Police Fire Brigade, Red Cross, police ambulance, Mulago Referral Hospital ambulance, 7 were rushed to Masaka Referral hospital and Mulago respectively for first aid treatment,” said Nampiima
She says the body of the deceased has been conveyed at Masaka Mortuary for postmortem examination.
