Controversy surrounds Busoga’s Royal Wedding amid alleged past marriage petition

Jinja. Days before the much-anticipated Busoga Royal Wedding, an unexpected twist has unfolded, shrouding the upcoming ceremony in uncertainty. Alison Anna Nadiope, laying claim as the spouse of William Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, has taken a decisive step by submitting a petition to the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda. Her plea seeks to bring the impending nuptials, scheduled for November 18, 2023, at Christ’s Cathedral – Bugembe in Jinja City, to a halt.

This unforeseen complication has arisen just before the highly anticipated Royal Wedding in Busoga. Alison Anna Nadiope, claiming to be married to William Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, has filed a petition with the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, aiming to halt the upcoming ceremony.

The wedding, set for November 18, 2023, at Christ’s Cathedral – Bugembe in Jinja City, now faces uncertainty due to Alison’s claims. She asserts, based on her November 8, 2023 petition, that she and the Kyabazinga were wed in December 2016 in Portsmouth, England, holding Marriage Certificate AK594729L. She also states they have two children, aged eight and six.

Through legal representatives at Mugerwa & Partners, Alison has objected to the Church of Uganda allowing the Kyabazinga’s marriage to Jovia Mutesi, citing that it could constitute bigamy and go against church norms due to her existing marriage to the Kyabazinga.

As of November 9, 2023, despite receiving Alison’s petition, the Church of Uganda has not publicly addressed the matter, leaving the situation unresolved with the wedding date looming. With the Busoga Royal wedding on the horizon, expect further developments from both sides as more details emerge.
