On 22nd January 2023, President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana led a distinguished delegation on a visit to the Kiira Vehicle Plant in Kakira Town Council, Jinja district, reinforcing a dedicated commitment to bolstering bilateral relations and fostering collaborative advancements in the automotive industry.
Accompanied by a cadre of high-ranking officials, and diplomats including: the Foreign Minister Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Uganda’s Minister Hon. Judith Nabakooba, and Hon. Dr Monica Musenero alongside diplomats such as Botswana’s envoy to Uganda Amb. Andrew O. Sesinyi and Uganda’s envoy to Botswana Amb. Amoru Paul as well as Botswana Honorary Consul to Uganda Ms. Maria Odido, the delegation underscored the dynamic partnership between the two nations.
This significant visit followed substantive bilateral talks between President Masisi and the President of Uganda, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on the sidelines of the recently concluded G77ChinaSummitUg at the Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.
These talks have not only fostered a robust dialogue but have also set the stage for a comprehensive spectrum of cooperative ventures aimed at fortifying the global positions of both nations.
Beyond its national significance, the Kiira Vehicle Plant symbolizes not just Uganda’s but also Africa’s collective capability and ambition to compete in the modern automotive industry, marking the onset of a sustainable industrial revolution within the continent.
With this visit acting as a catalyst, Botswana and Uganda are now poised to embark on an enterprising journey toward transformative cross-border ventures. Their united pursuit of innovation and market expansion serves as a powerful testament to the enduring spirit of African solidarity and progress.
