The Dokolo district covid-19 taskforce has issued new burial guidelines aimed at regulating gatherings during funerals.

The guideline follows a report that members of the public are not observing the guidelines which were issued by President Yoweri Museveni to scale down the spread of coronavirus in the country.

On Tuesday, the district task force held a meeting in which the Resident district commissioner Anna Odongo Lumumba announced that they have received information that people are still gathering to bury their lost dear ones illegally.

According to the RDC, the worst sub-counties whose people are not following the standard operating procedures are Okwalongwen, Bata, Adeknino, Dokolo, Amwoma, and Dokolo town council.

Anna Odongo says the task force discussed and resolved that to address the problem, the bereaved family shall seek authorization from the security and health department of the district to be allowed to bury their lost relatives.

The district health officer Dr. Samuel Ojok reported that the cumulative covid-19 cases now stands at 382 with 173 active cases and 110 recoveries. The district has also recorded 11 covid-19 deaths.

The operation wealth creation coordinator for Dokolo district Col. Simon Agong noted that the security officers enforcing the SOP’s are suffering at the hands of people. He cited an incident that recently happened in Okwalongwen where two police officers were reportedly assaulted by locals while on duty.

His report promoted the meeting to pass a resolution to reinforce police officers with army officers to help in the implementation of the president’s directives
