MPs Alyek, Acen, Apea eat big as NRM appoints committee leaders.

Three female members of Parliament from Lango Sub-region have been appointed by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Central Executive Committee to the leadership positions of Parliamentary Committees.

On Wednesday the Central Executive Committee of NRM that sat at State House Entebbe seconded MPs to the leadership positions of both standing and sectorial committees of Parliament according to the senior manager for Information, communication and publicity Rogers Mulindwa.

Of the three MPs from Lango are; Judith Alyek of Kole District who has been appointed to chair the equal opportunities committee of Parliament, Dorcas Acen of Alebtong who will deputise Alyek as vice chair and Dr Agness Atim Apea of Amolatar who has been appointed as the vice chairperson for the Committee of Parliament on agriculture animal industries and fisheries.

Alyek is serving her second term in Parliament and in the 10th Parliament she served as the chairperson of the committee on HIV/Aids mean while Acen and Dr Atim Apea are new entrants.

This is the first time, NRM has seconded only female legislators to the leadership positions of parliamentary committees from Lango.

Juidth Alyek Odongo- (Kole) Chairperson Equal Opportunities Committee

Alyek is currently serving her second term in Parliament having joined in 2016 after unseating Joy Ruth Aceng now Uganda’s ambassador to Otawa Canada.

She holds a Master of Science Public Health from International Health Sciences University and Bachelor of Science in Health Services Management of Islamic University in Uganda.Prior to that she obtained Advanced Diploma in Health Promotion and Education – Uganda Martyrs University and Diploma in Environmental Health Science – Makerere University.

Alyek attended Atan Primary School Alito, Kole, St Katherine Secondary School for O’level and Dr. Obote College, Boroboro Uganda Certificate of Education  for her A’ level.

Before joining parliament she served as Member of the Board, Uganda AIDS Commission Technical Advisor – Maternal and Child Health/Community Health – AVSI Foundation, Uganda.

Dr Agness Atim Apea (Amolatar) Vice Chairperson, Committee on agriculture animal industries and fisheries.

She holds a PhD in international development from University of Reading in the UK with focus on rural development, agriculture and development economics.

She has a masters in development studies from UMU,Bsc of commerce from Muk,Founder of Hope Development Intiative,international consultant with World Bank and UN.Ranked in 2007 by BBC among 100 top influencia women in Uganda.

Apea served as the chairperson local government finance commission, a position she held from 2016-2021 untill her election to Parliament.

She is a specialist in socio economic development, financing policy and planning with emphasis on agriculture,fiscal decentralization, local government practice and policy.

Apea went to Alemere PS,St Katherine SS for O level and  and Awelo SS for A’level

Dorcas Acen (Alebtong) Vice Chairperson Committee on Equal Opportunities.

Acen floored her name sake Achen Christine Ayo in the last election to represent Alebtong District in the 11th Parliament.

Over the years she has been very active in fighting for the rights  and empowerment of vulnerable women and girls.

Prior to joining elective politics, Acen served as gender and protection advisor with Care International in Juba South Sudan, Senior GBV/Protection with Health Link South Sudan,Women Protection and Empowerment Officer with IRC.

Acen holds a Masters Degree in Gender and Development from Uganda Matrys Univeristy,Masters Degree in Human rights and local governance of Makerere University and Bacholers of arts Education from Makerere University.

She attended MM College Wairaka Jinja.
